Mpasu Village is an impoverished village located in the northern part of the Thyolo District of Malawi.

The village is very far from a city. There is no access to clean water. Storms in recent times have cause soil erosion in the area and deforestation, which has caused a decrease in productivity and harder times for the people of the village. The village itself is undeveloped with no medical clinic. The government hospital is a far distance away.

Mpasu was introduced to our farming ministry program called Farming God’s Way in 2017. Farming God’s Way, is an effective, no-till farming method. Our FGW program incorporates discipleship groups called GLGs (God’s Love Groups). These are regular effective discipleship meetings that bring the people closer to the Lord with Bible teachings, application, and teaching them to better work together, help one another, and help others.

CURRENT CONDITIONS

The current water sources include a grassy, open surface hand-dug well. People also use other hand-dug wells. During dry season the water dries up some. During rainy season the well overflows becoming more polluted and there is more sickness. Filling containers takes a long time. People walk 1-2 hours to fetch water and sometimes come at night when there may be more water recharged into
the well after drying-up some during the day. Kids often miss school because they spend so much time fetching water. This village is in desperate need of clean water. The major diseases here that are causing illness and sometimes death include cholera, dysentery,
bilharzia, and skin diseases.

My name is Iva. I am one of the members of FGW in this area. I have brought you here so that you see for yourself the water source we are having in this village. As you can see we dug this well a long time ago. So that we have a water source and can use the water into our homes.
So with this water we have so many problems. This water you see are very dirty with bad color. We have no other alternative. Through this waters we do sometimes find wild animals dying here. When it is rainy season all dirt from animals and people floods into the well. This water, they bring so many diseases in the village. So many people are in  hospitals. They are [sick] and have dysentery.

Children fail to go to school due to this disease. They fail because they are very late [to school]. The water dries up. We come at night to fetch water. Even our marriages are broken. Husbands get angry and sometime don’t believe that we are fetching water. Kids fail school  because they take so much time to fetch water.

One day we found a dead dog here, but we still collected the water. If possible, please help us with a bore hole. Thank you very much and God bless you.

Iva

Cholera is always a major health concern in Malawi and they just experienced one of the worst outbreaks of the disease in 2023.
(Haiti was #1 and Malawi was #2 in the world.) This disease can be avoided and stopped by providing access to safe, clean water!
Providing a well will meet their most urgent need for clean water. Their health will improve immediately. They will have clean water to drink, something they have never had before. Water for cooking, bathing, and other household uses. Moms will be close to home to take care of their families and have peace of mind that the water is clean for their children. They will have water for their livestock and for growing gardens around their homes. They will save money for medicine and save them time and money going to the hospital. Kids can go to school and not be late. Another prime goal is to create more opportunity to share the gospel and to demonstrate the love of Jesus through providing the gift of clean water.

OUR EXPERIENCE IN MALAWI

Our ministry partner Charles Mithowa is the main director for the {Malawi] well projects, and has completed many. These are very reliable partners and we have had excellent success in our relationship with them to date. Heaven’s Family sister ministry, Farming God’s Way, has been working with Charles for some years now. The farming program is changing lives of poor farmers by helping them raise
more food and teaching discipleship. The government of Malawi has recognized the success of our Farming God’s Way program with these partners. We do not do projects unless we have formed an ongoing partnership with a good track record of accountability with any ministry partner who is involved in any Safe Water Ministry project. We require ‘before’ marker photos where the well will be
drilled. We collect pertinent details that describe the need, collect completion photos, reports and testimonies. The driller will be the same as long as they keep doing good work. They have been very accommodating.

MAINTENANCE AND FUTURE REPAIR

‘God’s Love Groups’, discipleship groups in place for our Farming God’s Way ministry will direct some of the management, in partnership with the village. The  beneficiaries will contribute a small amount to pay for maintenance. Both the  GLG teams and community authorities shall manage the property for permanent use for the community.

PROJECT COSTS AND TIMELINE

Your generous donation of $3,500 will bring a deep borehole well and a hand pump to this village.  All of your funds will be used for materials and labor.  The project is expected to start in July and be completed in August 2024.

FUTURE IMPACT

Providing a well will meet their most urgent need for clean water. Their health  will improve immediately. They will have clean water to drink, something they have never had before. Water for cooking, bathing, and other household uses. Moms will be close to home to take care of their families and have peace of mind that the water is clean for their children. Kids can go to school and not be late.

Another prime goal is to create more opportunities to share the gospel and to demonstrate the love of Jesus through providing the gift of clean water.

CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP

Farming God’s Way (FGW) coupled with God’s Love Groups (GLGs) is the physical ministry of learning to grow food combined with a wonderful and effective discipleship component. This training has helped the people learn how to grow more food to feed their families, to work together and to follow the Lord more closely. The meetings are held regularly, the Bible is studied, they pray, and families and the whole community are built up. The program also increases dignity and purpose, and provides them with success, which is another benefit for these impoverished people. These poor villages lack access to clean water, and providing clean water not only provides better health, but inspires more interest in FGW/GLGs. The people see the love of Jesus demonstrated through providing clean water.

All projects are made possible by World Changers.
