Kitandwe Village is a rural community in Uganda. Water scarcity is a serious problem here as well as in several neighboring villages. These communities are currently surviving on swamp water that is shared with animals, and poses a significant health hazard.
The people, usually women and children, have to walk one to two miles to fetch this contaminated water. The walk is uphill on the way back, requiring the women and children to carry the heavy containers of dirty water home to their families. During dry spell, the villagers have access to even less water, or no water at all.
